IF YOU GO TO INFOWARS the store where you can buy the berky adresses this issue/it says that the filtration system filters out more aluminum caused by the flouride filters than is required by law thereby meaning (they say ) very safe to drink

I’d worry that it actually makes alumnium fluoride.. which is worse than the fluoride coming out of the taps…Your Thoughts please?…..
I emailed Berkey and they wont respond !!!…….

Isaidsohaha,
We do what we can do within the sphere of influence we are in. “They” will do what “they” are going to do. Until then, I would like to be self reliant and enjoy the peace that comes from it.

Has it occurred to you if it’s not the water it’s something else their gonna take you out with?

The pf2 filters left a silty film in my bottom unit. i thought that the medium in the pf2 was working up through the threads where they connect to the stems from the black elements. So I wrapped teflon tape around the threads and put the pf2’s back on. No difference. I also did not like the fact that they hang submerged in the lower unit. In the end I have stopped using the pf2 elements.

Thanks for the reply. Stupid question: is this calcium from the water. I assume as you say this is normal and SAFE to consume. Also I can smell no odour from the purified water. Many thanks for your comments.

Thanks for posting this info.
I’m still concerned that the white sediment I’m seeeing is the “process dust” mentioned in the PF2 filter’s paper work. It has a strange odor, and as far as I know calcium doesn’t smell.
I plan on re-priming mine, in case I didn’t do it well enough the first time.

Regarding PF2 Sediment:
From Berkey:
“Yes, this is completely normal. What you are seeing is Calcium. Berkey purification elements make calcium (which is normally invisible) visible. You are doing exactly the right thing by cleaning it with vinegar. We do not recommend using vinegar in a Berkey Light, but a stainless steel Berkey and your kettle is fine.
If you have a Berkey Light we recommend that you only use a mild dish detergent to clean the bottom canister.”

I received my big berkey, and I am having the same issue as shmahlahin – white sediment in the lower chamber. I believe it is some of the media from my PF2 filter. What can I do about this?

Hi, I have a berkey just like one in video, has black filters and PF2’s. Once water is filtered and used, there seems to be a little white sediment that settles at bottom of my kettle which means I have to clean the kettle once in while with vinegar. The inside of the berkey also has a little of the sediment stuck in the lower tank. Is this normal? Thanks

Yes. Each Black Berkey element will do 3000 gallons. Each PF2 does approximately 1000. So you need a ratio of of a minimum of 3 to 1.

This was great! Thanks. I have one question.
Is it true that the PF-2 have a shorter life span than the Black Berkey? If so, how do I know when to change the PF-2s and how many to order when I get the unit?
