teamaquaduct asked:

The Aquaduct is pedal powered vehicle that transports, filters, and stores water for the developing world. A peristaltic pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a filter, to a smaller clean tank. The clean tank is removable and closed for contamination-free home storage and use. A clutch engages and disengages the drive belt from the pedal crank, enabling the rider to filter the water while traveling or while stationary. The Aquaduct is the winning entry in …

it looks more like they would share the bike between a few families, & each have their own ‘clean’ container, need to also be able to keep the spout pipe end clean. // another idea would be have a long small hose-pipe & have a pedal pump on the end with a filter. // think about hills water would be from above or below, need to pumped, only step stairs to access village. // filter plus UV solar, mobile village system better// but this is a good idea for flatter areas. I like cycling.

Apart from making an absurd comparison to a bulletproof skateboard, can you explain why you think it’s impractical? I see problems, eg lack of good roads and heaviness of water make it tough to just pedal along; but how do you figure it’s so impractical as to make it a ridiculous idea?

Wow, carrying that water must make that bike heavy lol. Still, its a very cool idea. Until the filter needs changing.

Fireproof condom is useless? Hold a match up to your penis is get back to me on that statement! Seriously, though…Fresh water is a need. GRANTED. No argument there. Unfortunately, this bike is a freaking atrocity against practicality. Hey, I have an idea…a bulletproof skateboard so that the Africans can shred their way to the water source AND have a shield to hide behind when their own people spray them with hot lead.

What a crock of crap, man-made global warming. If people could afford these Aquaduct cycles & the many filters needed to filter the kind of crap out of their water supply, then they could pool their money together and drill a clean well that will outproduce & outlast this piece of crap.

Use the motorcycle and burn the wood, there is no such thing as man-made global warming. We are not causing other planets to warm either, but they are.

you first. i already stated my idea (motorbike engine powered pump for a whole village)

I’ll build you a prototype and make a video, just send your bank account number and routing number to my buddy N’Tambo in Nigeria for funding. i assure you that your rich uncle you didn’t know you had died in a plane crash and we just want to fund our project with part of your inheritance, while we transfer the rest to your account. you can trust me!

this is what people in the first world need the most… a third world perspective. Ashraf Ghani explains this “on rebuilding broken states”.

The aquaduct is a cool and preety idea but is not sustainable.

    Cheers.

    okay, here ya go:

the PRESSURE of the water coming from the source forced through a filtration system accessible to PUBLIC means.

Then, Joe African can fill up his plastic jugs and put it on his bike without having to transport dirty water in an expensive “econy bike” which takes maintenance to change filters!

Look, these ppl are poor. They can’t afford bikes much less these stupid bikes. even if they had money this idea is STUPID!!!

then post up your idea of something to clean water that doesn’t require a motor or expensive maintainance.

i love how all these student project videos always drop something in about pollution. like it really matters that it doesn’t “pollute” when you claim to have 5000 children a day dying of thirst (OMG THE CHILDRENSSSSSS!!!!!111).

i think you need to work on your priorities, then make a more efficient design using a motorbike engine that can filter enough for a whole village per day. one family probably cant afford this bike, but a village might be able to pool resources and get a larger pump.
