This is awsome, I love this one, easier to store then mine is and the weight is not that much more then mine. I think I like your idea more then the one I have. Great minds think alike! OORAH brother!

I love it!! So you mean you use Chlorox to purify and that’s it? No iodine tablets or anything? Have you had problems before? Does Chlorox kill all the bacterium and viruses? I’m really curious because I am about to go drop $80 on a MSR filter, but would rather use your method if it is safe enough.

Bleach kills it all, 2 drops bleach per quart, 8 drops per gallon. the filter takes all the taste of the bleach out. Plus Hirams water filter and the one I built both weigh less together then most filters on the market.

Good to know. I might go that route instead of buying an expensive pump filter.

So what’s the Britta got in it? Activated charcoal?

How long do you let the bleach “react” prior to running it through the filter?

This is what I use.
Ratio of Clorox Bleach to Water for Purification

2 drops of Regular Clorox Bleach per quart of water
8 drops of Regular Clorox Bleach per gallon of water
Common household bleach contains a chlorine compound that will disinfect water. The treated water should be mixed thoroughly and allowed to stand, preferably covered, for 30 minutes. The water should have a slight chlorine odor; if not, repeat the dosage and allow the water to stand for an additional 15 minutes.

The Brita filter has activated carbon and ion exchange resin in it.
I use the filter on water I’ve treated with clorox and water that I have treated by boiling.
The filter doesn’t take out the bad stuff, it just makes the water taste a whole lot better. Some people use drink mixes to cover the taste of the water but that doesn’t help much for water you want to cook with.
