When I found out about the amount of cities that had higher than status lead levels in the municipal water, I began to rethink my reliance on tap water.

 

I looked into home water filters, and how they function in regard to some of the new evidence coming out about lead, and I was surprised by what I found.

 

You might want to know about just how inadequately some filtration systems deal with lead, and what a growing problem it represents.

 

 

Whether or not a filter deals with the problem properly is a matter of their function.

 

Well, how do water filters work in regard to lead?

 

One option is point of use distillation, that runs water across a heated coil, evaporating it and condensing it into a distilled form.

 

This draws out heavy metals in the water such as lead, which works excellently to deal with the problem, but unfortunately you lose a lot from the water.

 

Distilled water lacks the minerals present in pure, fresh water, that our body relies on.

 

Children especially need these minerals to avoid health complications… and here I thought getting rid of lead would be easy.

 

Another option that came to mind was reverse oxidation…

these home water filters run their water through a semi permeable membrane that draws out impurities such as lead.

 

There is disagreement on how effective this method is at maintaining water purity, but unfortunately this membrane is unable to manage other water-borne threats, such as levels of pharmaceuticals in the water, as well as the

 

possibility of farm or factory runoff.

 

Why would I get a water filter system that is not equipped to deal with a threat like this?

 

 

But how do water filters work aside, I was pleased to find out about a new brand of water filter, one that utilized the standard carbon filtration that best deals with lead but maintains the healthy minerals in water, coupled with a multiple stage system that amounts to managing every threat that is present today.
